She smiled down at him, lips red with lipstick and shaped into a mischievous little smile. She rested her elbows on her knees, chin sitting in her palms. “What’s up?”

It wasn’t hard for him to recognize her smell — he’s met shapeshifters before, after all. Perhaps of a different kind, but in the end, couldn’t they all classify under similar species? Not as hostile towards strangers as he used to be, he merely offered the girl a small nod, hands stuffed in his pockets securely.

“A new face around? Can’t say I’ve ever seen you before,” ignoring her question entirely, he took one, small step towards the girl, still not closing the distance between them.
